ELA: Hatchet Ch. 5 & 6 Literature Circles on Thursday afternoon. Please ensure tasks get finished before Thursday. Time will be given in class to work on tasks today, tomorrow, and Thursday morning, but this might need to be done as homework. Thank you so much students and families of Room 19 for a fantastic start to the 2018-2019 school year! I loved getting to know all of you and will miss you very much while I'm on leave. A reminder to return your Hitmen game field trip forms to Mme Zdrill or Mme Edgett by Wednesday! ELA Literature Circles Students met for the first time today in their Literature Circles. Lots of great discussion and participation was observed! Thank you to those students who came fully prepared to share their tasks with their group. This week. each student will receive a new role, and we will continue reading chapters 6 and 7. Students are welcome to bring their books home to read, but please do not read ahead. ELA:
Students will meet in their Hatchet Literature Circles for the first time on Monday. Those who didn't finish their tasks in class have brought their work home to complete on the weekend. It is very important that each student comes prepared to their group's meeting, so please ensure that this work is completed! FLA: We will correct our irregular verbs quiz as a class on Monday. Students will be able to see what they know and what they still need to practice. Students may redo the quiz to improve their grade. Sciences: Some groups were able to make their game work today! Students have been working hard to prepare for Friday's Remembrance Day Assembly at 10:30. As always, parents are welcome to join. The Grade 5 team is asking that students do their best to dress in a way which reflects the solemn nature of the assembly on Friday by wearing dark, solid colours and refraining from wearing clothing with slogans or text. If your child is a member of the cadets, Cubs/Scouts, or Brownies/Girl Guides they are invited to wear their uniforms on Friday. ELA:
Today we began our novel study on the book "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen. We started with a class discussion on the meaning of the word perseverance- our school's virtue of the month as well as an important theme in the book. As a class, we read the first chapter then wrote a journal reflection. - What does "perseverance" mean? Ask me to give an example. Social Studies: Students in Rm 19 began researching their second Canadian region today. We are using two different textbooks in French to take notes on the six categories: location, relief, climate, vegetation, fauna, and natural resources. - Did I learn any new information about my region?
